Berry Patch Kids

Mimi has been visiting this week! We thought it would be fun to go berry picking with the kids outside the city today. We traveled north of Seattle for the afternoon to Biringer Farms. It was conveniently located just off I-5 in Arlington WA. We all had a great time. They had so many strawberries and raspberries that needed picking. It was almost a shame all of them that were going rotten on the vine!
Raspberries are much easier to pick because you don't have to bend down!
I had a strawberry patch growing up for about 1-2 seasons as a way for Michael and I to learn responsibility and make some cash. I think my parents ended up doing most of the weeding and picking. Now I think if they had gone with raspberries we would have like it better because you don't have to bend :)
Levi did more eating than picking!

We brought the strawberries home and use a recipe from Against the Grain cookbook. It only called for 3 cups of berries, 1/2 cup honey and 2 tbsp of lemon juice! So easy and real!
First mash the the berries in a sauce pan then add honey and lemon juice and bring it to a boil....

let boil for 15-20 minutes and stir regularly.... let cool in jar and then spread on toast!
Candy had bought Biringer Farm's homemade strawberry shortcake so of course we had to have strawberries and ice cream with it tonight!
