Explore WA: Deception Pass and Whidbey Island

Name one good thing about working on the weekend... I'm off Monday and Tuesday and everyone else is at work. How can this be good? Well if we want to take a family day trip to explore another part of Washington on a beautiful day, a ton of other people are not doing the same thing! Today we drove about 1 and 1/2 hours north to Deception Pass (connects Fidalgo Island where we went in Explore WA: Anacortes to Whidbey Island) and then drove down through Whidbey Island making a few stops along the way. We finished the trip by taking the Mukilteo Ferry back to Edmonds, WA and then driving about 45 min home.
Leighton enjoyed getting to play in the sand today. We only saw a bald eagle, deer and seagulls...again no orcas.  The view behind Leighton is looking toward Victoria, BC and some of the San Juan Islands.
Here is a back shot for you Candy (Mimi)
Then we had to find a spot in the shade. Leighton was kind enough to share some sweet kisses with her Daddy.
We stopped in Coupeville for lunch. It was  a cute, old town on the opposite side of the island from the beach above. It had nice views of the mainland or back toward the Cascade Mountains.
Cute storefront downtown
Ate lunch at Kim's Cafe
Wes caught me offering L ice cream... she really like Mommy's mint chocolate chip!
Then before heading home we stopped at Fort Casey State Park. It was a fort built in the 1890s used to guard the Puget Sound but never had to fire a shot. Next time I go I would like to stay at Fort Casey Inn.
Leighton was pretty worn out so we headed home! Thanks for sharing the day with us and keeping connected. I have been a little homesick recently... mainly just wanting our families to be able to enjoy Leighton like we do. I'm looking forward to visiting TN and KY in a few short weeks!
