If we only have 900 of these, lets pick apples!

I heard the other day, parents only have about 900 weekends with their kids before they leave them at 18 years. And if I do the math I have already spent about 172 of Leighton's! Not cool. With that to say, we had another gorgeous weekend in Seattle so today we went apple picking. I love honeycrips apples so went to Snohomish county's The Farm at Swans Trail to grab up some of their apples before the honeycrips season ended. I was suppose to meet Mary Ann to study Isaiah this morning but we decided we could just touch on it and hang out today instead. Discipleship is not just sitting in coffee shops for accountability with bibles open but also doing life together, right? I learn a lot from her and Matt just watching them play with their 3 sweet kids.

As we were walking around we did reflection on a passage, Isaiah 30:8-11 And now, go, write it before them on a tablet and inscribe it in a book, that it may be for the time to come as a witness forever.  For they are a rebellious people, lying children, children unwilling to hear the instruction of the Lord; who say to the seers, "Do not see, " and to the prophets, "Do not prophesy to us what is right; speak to us smooth things, prophesy illusions, leave the way turn aside from the path, let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel." The people here were not only trusting Egypt and money instead of God's power but completely rejected the Word of God. They wanted "pleasant words" from false prophets (sermons not disturbing their comfortable way of life). They did not want to hear God's truth. (also see Jer 6:14 and Jer 8:11) It definitely made me think of the video that has been circulating from Joel Osteen's wife, Victoria. Our sinful, consumer nature always want to hear to live for ourselves and how everything is about us. When we take it away from God, it becomes scary stuff. They did it then in Isaiah's time and we do it now.

I digressed, I always do…..back to apple picking!

This picture was too fun not to share. Saw this shirt and had to get it since Wes loves beards :) I overheard Leighton telling Sadie in the bath that night after she wore this shirt "Don't worry Sadie, Dad has a beard" Bad parenting… teaching hope and security in facial hair.
