Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving this year was pretty unplanned. Well we had plan of my parents bringing up the Dudas’ boys Thurs evening – Sunday. Then Chase got sick so the plan changed for mom and dad to come up alone on Friday. Well somewhere along the way I didn’t tell Wes that we were going to eat on Sat and he thought we were eating Thurs even so he prep the turkey for smoking on Wed. Once it was out of the refrigerator/freezer earlier in week it needed to be cooked. So we whipped up a few dishes to go with the smoked turkey. The turkey was very yummy for Wes’ first time putting a turkey on the grill. We luckily were able to get another turkey to have with my parents for Sat.

It was nice to have food to eat yesterday as an immediate family and a few friends stopped by before they went to dinner with their families to sample the smoked turkey. The kids enjoyed playing outside with neighbor kids and we were thankful for nice weather.

For the appetizer I used Half Baked Harvest recipe for whipped goat cheese with caramelized dates and bacon. So yummy!

On Friday though, Wes and Levi woke up with fevers. My parents still decided to come with a plan of a 2nd smoked turkey and sides on Sat! We were not much fun over the weekend but enjoyed the visitors! We watched Home Alone, took a sunny hike that was hysterical as we watched Grami cross a creek. Lydia (Leighton's friend) and Emily (Sadie's friend/neighbor) joined us.  On the hike Sadie also got stuck in mud and carried her shoe on a stick upset...eventually we made it out fo the woods in Bay Village to Lake Erie's shores at Huntington Beach.

2nd Thanskgiving dinner was yummy with another smoked turkey!
Grami and Papa got a new vehicle and the kids wanted to ride around just to experience the screens. I am documenting this because who knows what the insides of cars will look like in 10-20 years. This weekend while we were watching Home Alone, she noticed that the actors were using the arms/hands to roll up the windows on cars and asked about it. I forgot they were born after manual windows were long gone!
Levi continues to love desk-pets. His teacher rewards them with it at school and I started my own system of rewards for him at home for reading/math facts. Sadie is studying and reading about Helen Keller for a book report and really enjoying it too!
