Yurt-ing with Mt St Helens

WARNING: MANY PICS!
This past weekend was spent at Mt St Helens National Park. We stayed in a yurt for the first time. The weather was nice, a little cool in the evenings and morning but overall pleasant. I wasn't sure how the weather would be mid-Sept so we decided to book a yurt instead of a tent campsite. It had electricity, heat and beds so it was better than sleeping in a tents. I enjoyed having the "little cabins". The kids had fun because two other families joined us so they enjoyed running around with their friends.
Inside the yurt had bunk beds and a double bed we put our sleeping bags on. The girls did puzzles and we read a "Little House on the Prairie" before bed... nostalgia for me!
Outside of the yurt there was plenty of fires, hot chocolate, s'mores, roasting, deer spotting, running, conversations, and hammock-ing
including teeny tiny marshmallow roasting

On Saturday we went from Seaquist State Park where we were camping across the street to the Mt St Helen's Visitor center and took a small hike around the wet lands.

I wore my 8 year old hiking boots but never got off pavement or boardwalk....
Then we drove the 40 miles from the visitor center to Johnston Ridge Observatory for a closer look and more history on the volcano. It is named after David Johnston a volcanologist who died the day it erupted, May 18, 1980 along with 56 other people who had not evacuated the park.  I loved hearing the history from the Forest Ranger.

We will definitely yurt again! Till next time Mt St Helens!
