Sawyer 6.2.2020- 2.7.2023

Well we hit another life milestone, losing your first pet. This past Monday we came home from work/school to find Sawyer had thrown up multiple times. That night he didn’t eat or drink and had low energy. On Tues, after work Wes took him to the vet as he still had not eaten and threw up again. We were fearful he had eaten something again. The x-ray showed that he had indeed eating something cloth that had shredded and wrapped around his small intestines. Surgery would be risky, unreliable, and likely have post-op complications/poor quality of life. The vet made it pretty clear that he needed to be put down that night. It happened so fast. The kids were with Wes at the vet for a while until I was able to pick them up. They loved on Sawyer then but we told them that night he would not be coming home. They were devastated and so sad. All three crying for several hours. Over the next few days, they cried on and off when they thought of him. We talked about how this is normal to be sad to lose a pet. Sawyer was a creature God made. Death is not natural though it is common. God created everything to live and it did until the fall. Missing his presence in the house and reflecting on the memories with him and the kids is sad. Even being reminded of the chores we do not have to do with him is sad. I know time will help but we did enjoy Sawyer for the short 2.5 years we had with him.

He got a Dyson vacuum his first Christmas but probably didnt really start shedding until year 2 of life.

Sawyer loved the outdoors, snow and just laying around. He was good with kids and just let them lay on him, especially Levi.

He was very protective of anything he put in his mouth. He loved food and would eat anything. He probably pooped out 75-100 socks over his life time. He did have one previous surgery for removal of dishrags, kids clothes, and headbands when we were at Michael's lake house.

He was little once but not for long. He eventually weighed around 100 lbs.

The puppy fur was so soft!

Many Bernese mountain dog themed items will continue to fill our house such as stuffies, pillows Leighton made, magnets, and ornaments.

He loved Wes the most. he would get so excited when he came home from work. Wes was primary caretaker, feeder, walker, poop scooper!

Leighton probably cared the most about him even though Levi was constantly interacting with him.

Still amazing to me I had this large animal in the home!
