Explore Ohio: East Harbor State Park/Lakeside Marblehead

Happy Father’s Day to Wes and all the other fathers who spiritually, mentally and physically impact myself and others. I know none of them are perfect like our Heavenly Father but thankful for the ways we are blessed by them. I know I see a picture of our Heavenly Father in my own dad the way he has an unconditional love for me and I know he would do everything possible to help, rescue and or save me in his capacity. That is a picture of how our Everlasting, Always Pursing God on an all-powerful and individual level for each of us. That is overwhelmingly good.

The best way we knew how to celebrate Wes this weekend was put in him a thriving environment where he can demonstrate his sacrificial service to us. How thoughtful of myself and the kids J He does so much for us and packing, hauling, setting up and tearing down a campsite is no exception.

We have only been camping in Ohio once prior, Mohican. This time we tried East Harbor State Park. It is only an hour from the house which was a huge bonus. We have to change our mind set that we are not camping in the PNW and that instead of hikes to waterfalls or up mountains we will be camping in hopefully woods close to a lake. The campground was good with lots of biking opportunities. We had good weather 68-72 degrees minus the mayflies that plagued the area and a slight wind storm Friday night.

Overall the kids love more freedom biking without us around camp ground, we all enjoyed reading, Levi made friends with two boys camping by us which was sweet and they played cards and football a lot. We tried making philly cheesesteak for the first time and it was a success, yummy and easy.  Just because you can sleep camping doesn’t mean you cant eat good.

Camping can be a lot of work despite that we enjoy it. I was encouraged by Sadie’s unprompted thank you that we took them camping while we were biking one day J I love the way she is enjoying life and dancing in the background as I took pictures of Leighton sweetly sipping her hot chocolate.

Being able to camp also allows for cheap lodging in an area we haven’t been to before. So we were happy to be able to explore some of the Lakeside Marblehead community in Ohio. There is a neat community called Lakeside started by the Methodist church in the area we went to during the day and also visited the Marblehead lighthouse. Friends, Morgan and John, also came up for dinner Friday night and our actually Rocky River neighbors were in the area at their condo and took us out for ice cream!

Levi and Sadie really bonded at the dinner restaurant playing, wrestling and rolling down hills!

It is a place we would go back to!

At Lakeside, a community that takes you back to the Victorian age (with update yard games). I would love to pop back see how they lived for a day!
Emphasizing the mayflies.
Visiting the lighthouse!

We really enjoyed the biking on the peninsula with the waves from the lake and also the stagnate lily pad lagoon areas that lead to the beach path on the state park
The campground even showed a movie at amphitheater.
It is a place we would come back to! I enjoyed the uninterrupted time with the kids and Wes too.

Sadie gave Wes homemade coupons for Fathers Day. Leighton sewed little breakfast items and Levi made a card. We are at the stage where I dont have to tell them or ask them to make gifts but they enjoy doing it and think ahead.

Happy Father's Day to our #1.
