Leighton is Eleven!

Our little bake is eleven. She loves to bake any time of sweet or prep anything that needs to be served (lemonade, snacks for small group, etc) It is so nice I can say "Leighton the bananas are going bad, can you make some banana bread." She follows recipes well. So for her main birthday gift, we gave her a baking class with Buttercream & Olive Oil. She was offering a choux pastry class where we made eclairs and cream puffs complete with craquelin, pastry cream, and italian meringue. I also enjoyed participating, learning, watching her excitement and eating what we made!

She is growing up me and Leighton definitely has a desire to be older and is separating herself from "kid" activities more and more. She still loves sewing and reading. She is still an old soul, gravitating to home-economics, scarves around her neck and long skirts. She is exploring style and desiring phone calls with friends and friends over more. There is some attitude but mostly emotions out of nowhere she cant really name.
She shared a crush on a boy the other day. She asked me and Wes advice on navigating a friendship where her feelings were hurt. I just appreciate her talking to us and pray we will always be her safe space.
She wants to be left home alone and more responsibility.  A happy medium we came up with was flyers for a summer business of being a mother's helper. She shared to some moms from church and in our neighborhood.
It was cute as I rode bikes with her and her friend Lydia who to drop off at neighbors. They loved it. Lydia will be working her neighborhood in Bay and Leighton in River.
I thought it was cute that she go the idea to make a fun babysitter kid kit of items from our house to take with her when she mother helps! I think this might have come from the Babysitters Club book series. !

Leighton also enjoys tennis, shooting arrows and is usually up for any yard game. She definitely will say yes to ice cream trips!
For her actually birthday woke her up with a donut tower and she also wanted Pringles :)
For dinner she requested grilled salmon so I invited 2 of her friends over, Lydia and Maddie, to surprise her and eat with us! They made oreo milkshakes for dessert.
Thankful for pretty weather and yard game season!
As I said the style is being explored.... she ask mom to get her beret hats after she saw the French style on a commercial.
Sadie tried one on too and said she looked like a mushroom. So funny to see their personalities.
Uncle Michael forgot to call her on her birthday so of course he goes big. Its always good if Michael forgets because his make up is over the top. She generously sent her chocolates and balloons and a gift card to Main Event.
Then Big and Mimi drove up and we continued to celebrate Kevin and Leighton's shared birthday with good food and plenty of sweets all weekend.
