History is always unfolding. I know that is obvious but I was reflecting on this at our church history class last week and all the ways God has kept his Word alive and His Spirit in people through so much sin and corruption.
Leighton said she was going to write a book the other day about a kid during a pandemic. I thought that would be good idea. There have been some key historical moments since 2020 including the sadness in Afghanistan with Taliban takeover, the possibility of the Supreme Court overturning Roe vs Wade and putting abortion rights into the states hands, and now this week as Russia invades and attacks Ukraine. I had the kids find Ukraine on the map tonight before we prayed for them after dinner. I know I felt unrest this week thinking about what Vladimir Putin, Russia's authoritarian head, would do next as he increased activity around their nuclear weapons. I explained to this kids he is a tyrant and power hungry which is leading to the shedding of human life. They asked if this was going to be WWIII and we talked about how Ukraine is asking for military equipment and aide to avoid WWIII so other countries don't have to get involved.
It is a balance of information overload and being informed to intercede to the Lord.
There has been hope with seeing Ukraine fight back and Ukraine's president, Zelensky, commiting to stay in the country and fight for freedom. He knows the importance of fighting for democracy and standing up to corrupt dictatorship. It is also encouraging to hear protest and Russians chatting "no war" in their country and seeing that they all do not agree with Putin. Or how Ukrainians called out to US Billionaire, Elon Musk, to send satellites to them and he did to help.
Prayer for Ukraine: Lord you are the one and only who controls history. You established the thrones in heaven and your kingdom rules over all. It is hard to remember in the midst of bombs, children separated from parents, abuse, trafficking, loss of life, people fleeing their homes and refugees navigating new lands. We pray for supernatural protection, boldness, love, courage, and strength. We pray for the Ukraine Christians to serve people best as the church and an increase in trust in God. We pray for provision for needs and surrounding nations too as they receive refugees. We serve a King who has defeated death and His promises are truth and His victory will be won.
This weekend we attended an event by Building Hope in the City to immersive in a cultural experience and to learn ways to invest in the Afghan refugees in the Cleveland area. More than 400 evacuees from Afghanistan have come to NE Ohio and up to 900 families planning to come soon. The kids have heard us pray for the Afghan people so we were excited to get an opportunity to bring them with us to learn more about ways to tangibly help our now neighbors who not that long ago were in their homes on the other side of the world. They were also taking donated bikes so each kid brought their old bikes they have outgrown. At one point I looked over to the "Kabul Market" area and Leighton was purchasing a tea set. She had pooled her money with Sadie. Little women :)
