Favorite Things: 16 Months Edition
The last time I posted our favorite things for Leighton was when she was 6 months old (see Leighton's Current Top 5) and before that she was only 2 months old (see Favorite Things). Oh my how time has flown! So here is an updated one if there are any moms that read this that will soon have a little one about Leighton's age!
1. Sidewalk chalk: We bought Melissa and Doug (any of their stuff is good) because it is non-toxic in case L gets hungry, it doesnt roll away because its triangle shape and it is easy for L to hold. Also it is a great way to teach. Leighton actually counted this week by herself! She counted 1-2-3-4-5-6 and then skipped to 9. Proud parent moment : )
2. B.O.B.: the ultimate jogging stroller! This is Wes' Craiglist find of the century. New BOBs are pricey but he found a great deal so that is the only reason we have one. It is so smooth and you can actually hold your coffee in one hand and steer with the other hand without having to end up wrestling the stroller (guess we aren't doing to much jogging : ) ).
3. Tofu: Yes my daughter is not a good eater... she can be picky and does not tend to eat a lot. There, I said it. So we have had to try different things to make sure she gets her nutrients and does not just eat crackers. Tofu dipped in ketchup has been a winner at our house. It is cheap (even the organic), tasteless, and easy to make. Leighton likes it warmed with seasoning on the skillet. Great source of protein!
4. Painting: I think anything crafty like stickers, coloring, sensory tables, painting, etc is fun for kids. Leighton really enjoyed painting at school the other day so I believe we need to invest in some paint! Here is a video from school. Yes she is topless! Even though they were washable, we wanted to spare her sweater.
5. Bubbles: She could play with home-made bubbles for hours especially with the big bubble blowers. This is a picture from the Woodland Park Zoo where they had a station set up when Leighton and I were there Saturday. To make at home follow the recipe below
6. Books: Leighton likes all books but especially ones that have flaps or something for her to touch. As parents we have enjoyed the Leslie Patricelli Books. The hard back pages are durable, the size is easy for Leighton to hold, and they are simple yet educating. We have the two below but I am sure the others would be great as well.

- 1-gallon hot water
- 3-tablespoons of glycerin
- 1-cup Dawn dishwashing liquid

7. All Things Girlie: Leighton has become a little mimic so she enjoys doing anything I do.... carrying a purse, rocking a baby, brushing her hair, putting on makeup. It is very cute. Leighton has this Disney Set but I'm sure anything would do!
8. Interactive Puzzles/Latchboards: Regular puzzles are great but the ones with magnets, latches, doors, etc especially hold Leighton's attention. I think we might need a puzzle holder. Hint Hint to the grandparents :) These are a few of the ones we have that I love.
