New Yorkers

Jim and Jackie Kohl, Matt and Devon Guertin, Morgan and John Heberle, and Wes and I

Before the VA Church Conference trip and the Austin Work Conference trip came up, we had planned a trip with friends to NYC. It started by a lady at church offering to let us stay in her townhome on Staten Island. It morphed into 2 nights in Times Square and 1 night in Brooklyn on Jim's Marriot Hotel points (very generous!). So a free place to stay meant we did the 1 hour flight (no 8 hour driving!) from Cleveland to NY with our closest Ohio friends. We explored, walk miles and miles, ate good food, laughed and had beautiful fall weather for 3 nights in NYC. It was Wes' first time there and I hadnt been since before 9/11 in August 2001 for a mission trip. The city is still huge but we were most impacted by the 9/11 memorial. It might be because we remember the day. It was my junior year of high school and I was in Spanish class. Our teacher turned on the TV. Then we all went home early. Our church gathered for prayer that evening. But also because of the intentionality and design at ground zero in NY. It is very impressive. They have two pools that match the imprints of the north and south towers to provider physical and mental space to process the weigh of the attacks and loss of life. The lack of buildings and acre size holes reminded me how something is forever missing amongst surrounding sky scrappers and the fragility of manmade security. Then the addition of the water fountain pouring down into a grave for thousands was next level powerful.

Wes tried hard to get on TV

went to a Broadway show.... it was okay

I liked staying in Brooklyn more than Times Square. However I did enjoy Central Park.

Thanks Mom and Dad for taking good care of the kiddos! They had fun!
