The Kitchen Remodel Journey

Once we decided this Spring was the best time for us to remodel the kitchen, I immediately began looking for inspiration. There are many HGTV shows but my favorite one, the one in which I drew a lot of inspiration, was  For the Love of Kitchens. It was a British show following DeVOL kitchens. It is also just relaxing to watch!  Of course online/Instagram also provided inspiration. Below are some of the screen shots I saved.

enjoyed the inset drawers and cabinets

love this light for over islands or peninsulas

I am drawn to colored, unique stoves

we didnt do this but I love the way the counter top is one with the sink

If I was more courageous I love this pink color, but I did take away hood design and accent stove
.

this marble look of backsplash the same as counter top was a goal

I immediately knew I wanted the little shelf at top of backsplash slab

Wes found this to store our broom as an idea. We ended up doing something similar!

this marble slab!
the copper sink! beautiful if you have the money

Then Wes started lining up all the sub-contractors. He had to work with floor (for hardwood repair), electrician, plumbing, drywall, and framer (beam). I worked with Dad's friend Scott (in KY) on drawing the layout of kitchen for cabinets and Wes did all the measurements from afar. We went back and forth several times ensuring we had all the types of cabinets we wanted before we gave Scott/Kip the green light to build. We chose inset and soft close drawer as well as the paint color to match our current trim/doors. The walls were going to remain white so we did beige cabinets to keep it neutral even though I could have gone a color!
It is a little stressful to pick out all the fixing for the kitchen. I would wonder if the color would look right with countertops and would that look right with lights, knobs, etc. After shopping around for counter tops we ended up with quartz. I LOVE the look and feel of marble but it is too pricy and less durable for our current home. We picked a print for the quartz that mirrored some of the marble veining I liked.
Viola Nouveau was the closest quartz veining we could find to the marble looks we liked.
We stumbled upon this stove. It was a floor sample and made the brand/style affordable for us.

On President's Day, it was finally the day to officially begin! The bean went up!

fridge arrive and we began using it /storing it in dining room

I ordered three of these from Pepe and Carol at first. They didnt have 3 because the glass shades were from an antique find and they could only do 2. So I worked with owner to use base of the above and change the shade.

Final product for our 3 sconces she showed me and I liked the soft ruffles at bottom even better!

Matt and Jim helping move out some cabinets

Wes did great keeping dust to a minimal so we could stay in the house the whole time.

The kids enjoyed vandalizing the wall before we took it down.

the kitchen was functional for a while

then when Peter helped remove the rest of the cabinets so the hardwood could be patched we had to create a make-shift kitchen in the dining area

at least we had the grill, fridges, microwave, air fryer, a water source and a lot of paper products

once it was cleared out, floors done, and drywall finished we were ready for cabinets

oven arrived! It came as propane (weird) so we had to covert to gas.

Dad and Scott brought two Uhauls of cabinets

Scott retired after our house. Not sure if it was me or the plan all along :)

Wes loved this new little tool he got to help install the knobs/handles.

After cabinets were coutnertops! I was very nervous if I would like them as they were a little bold, but I do and happy we went with more color since the walls are white and cabinets are beige.

countertop day was very exciting

appliance garage

Wes putting the panels on dishwasher (I absolutely love hiding the dishwasher and fridge. Our microwave is in a cabinet too above the pantry.

Found some cheap cafe curtains and tension rod for the two windows left (we covered one with our upper cabinets/appliance garage.

We waited the longest for the lights to come in but they were worth the wait!

All five members of the Moore family were happy, grateful and satisfied with the finished product (and process) so I will call it a success!
